The Big ? (who am I + why am I here)
Welcome! I’m Elizabeth. Asking those questions (who am I/why am I here/what am I doing +...) until the end, whatever that might be, I'm not sure there's such a thing.
I'm the creator of Resiliency Reconsidered= this place + a podcast, that like me, is a work in progress; exploring the depths of human resilience by navigating established terrain, as well as tripping clumsily through uncharted territory with courage & curiosity. Particularly w/curiosity about how and why we choose to -manage to- go on in a world in which there is so much suffering, when simultaneously it seems we -should or could- be simply enjoying the ride. A rather confounding experience for many of us! In reconsidering resilience, we potentially create new maps, and discover new valleys & vistas while traveling this often terribly difficult, sometimes tragic land of life. Along the way I've found that resilience isn't only about being strong and bouncing back from adverse events, it's also about acceptance of uninvited change & loss, willingness to suffer and endure the surprising pain of life. It seems NOT to be about chasing rainbows or quick-fixes, pursuing hacks or promised shortcuts to lasting happiness which turn out to be disappointments indelibly seared upon an already scarred soul. However, relentless grace & paradoxical luck kept my divergent mind seeking answers in the form of what physicist David Deutsch calls explanatory knowledge. Years of mindfulness meditation practice encouraged me to begin the ongoing cultivation of emotional intelligence, and seek to develop more critical thinking skills. My journey has been shaped by a deep passion for understanding how we, as individuals and as a collective, can thrive in an infinitely uncertain world.
My Journey
I’ve long been fascinated by the intersection of science, philosophy, and lived experience. I've been curious about lives; lived in poverty and those lived in relative wealth, lived in faith and lived without. About mental illness and mental health. About the visible and invisible effects of social, economic, and educational status. My early development led to a truncated career in the field of education in which I focused on special education and learning disadvantages. Then my life bifurcated into working in the polar opposite worlds of social services/mental/communityhealth + the digital wellbeing/health coaching/ mindfulness movement. Both only ever-so-slightly, as I continued navigating my own unfolding journey of self-healing and single-parenting in a world without a much needed PAUSE button. My commitment to mindfulness-based therapies, and my personal experiences with neurodivergence have led me to explore resilience not just as a concept, but as a practical, learnable skill. I’ve studied and drawn insights from myriad sources & disciplines, experts & novices, weaving their unique, scientific, or spiritual perspectives into real-world applications for wellbeing and growth.
Why Resiliency Reconsidered?
Because life should not feel like a survival game. I created this platform as a living knowledge library—a bit of my own soul, nearly wrecked by trying to survive. Here you'll find true stories, strategies, mindfulness practices, and deep philosophical inquiries that might help you to thrive. Whether it’s building emotional intelligence, exploring the future of AI in mental health, or examining the role of knowledge in human flourishing, my goal is to provide valuable insights that empower individuals to navigate life’s complexities with clarity and confidence.
